New banknotes to begin circulation in Russia in December this year. Nina Kozlova’s comment in Gazeta.ru
26 October 2017
Since 12 October, two new banknotes of 200 (with Sevastopol's symbols ) rubles and 2, 000 (spaceport Vostochny) rubles were released in Russia. According to the Central Bank, this will simplify payment by cash for goods and services among citizens. The last time the Central Bank was putting a new denomination banknote into circulation was in 2006. Back then, it was 5, 000 rubles. Since then, prices in Russia have more than doubled. It makes sense to double the denomination of the most popular banknotes of 100 rubles and 1000 rubles as well. New anti-counterfeiting technologies were applied for banknotes of 200 rubles and 2000 rubles. 15 Gosznak patents were used besides solutions of the world monetary industry.

Now, there is the greatest criminal interest in banknotes of 5,000 rubles due to their high denomination. The fact that they are undoubtedly checked in large stores, banks and ATMs does not stop counterfeiters. Cash in large amounts is in circulation in the cash market. People pay by cash in market places, small shops, borrow money from their acquaintances. So criminals are attracted particularly by the cash market. In such a place, the risk of getting a counterfeit banknote is the greatest for a law-abiding citizen due to the absence of technical means for recognition of counterfeits there.
So the citizens have to be very vigilant when it comes to new denomination banknotes and pay special attention to the source from which they receive these banknotes p>
